5 Home Remedies for better health

Not everyone can afford a gym membership or access to a personal trainer, but everyone can

benefit from improving their health.  For right now, you can improve your health easily and quickly and it won’t cost you a thing.  What you basically need to do is to incorporate more healthy habits into your daily routine, a mantra that we’ve all heard before, but it does benefit repeating.  The more you “see” it, the more likely you are to actually “do” it.

Keep reading for five easy changes to improve your health.

1) Water, Water, and  yes, Water

No, you don’t have to stop drinking your favorite cold sodas or your juices.  However,  drinking more water may help you in reducing your soda and juice intake.  It will also help your body improve – did you know that we often think we are “hungry” when we are just thirsty?  I always encourage my children to “drink some water” when they complain of hunger (unless of course, it’s nearing dinnertime).  Drinking water keeps them hydrated and feeling full.

Experts recommend drinking eight glasses of water a day.  Some other experts say that this is too much/too little.  Either way, increasing your water intake will certainly not hurt you and will make you feel that much more refreshed.   Try starting your day with a glass of water before eating – it can only go up from there.

2) Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is the time when your body regenerates, however , it does seem that we don’t get enough.  Work schedules, activities, television, the Internet – all these things can rob us of the sleep that we so badly need.

Set a routine to go to bed at the same time every evening.  Again, experts recommend that you get at least seven to ten hours a night, but each person has their individual sleep needs.  The important thing is to see what works best for you and stick with it.

3) Walk More

Fresh air and sunshine can’t be beat for better health.  Walk around outside!  It gives you the moderate exedrice that your body needs and you have time to think and reflect away from the computer, telephone and television.

Can’t get out and walk?  When you go to the store, yep, that’s right, park a little farther away from the door.  Walk the stairs instead of the elevator (up or down or both).  Walk a circuit around your yard.  It doesn’t matter where you walk, just get more of it.  Your body will thank you for this.

4) Stretch

Start each day with a stretch.  While you are still lying in bed, extend your arms and legs to get the blood flowing.  When you get out of bed, reach your arms toward the celing and press those feet intot he floor.  You will hear less popping and cracking of joints once you get your day started.

5) Relax

While doing all these things will help you, your outlook and health won’t truly improve until you relax.  Take a deep breath, get away from it all, even if your mini-vacay only takes place behind the closed door of a bathroom stall.  Stressing about insignificant things, getting angry over situations you can’t control only wreaks havoc on your immune system and results in wasted energy.  Plus, it can make you sick!

Take some time for you, listen to music, stare out the window or even take soothing shower or bath.
